There's 3 ways of treating people. The low road, the middle road and the high road.
The low road is to treat people worse than how they treat you. The middle road is to treat people the same way they treat us, which means if people treat us good, we treat them back good in return and when people mistreat us, we take the revenge and treat them the same way they mistreat us. Taking the high road is by treating people better than they treat you.
Why we shouldn't just take the middle road? That is to treat people the same way they treated us.
“If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.
But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great. "
Be merciful, because God is merciful to us and He sent His only son to die for our sin. Never think of revenge as judgement is to be done by God not man.
The way people treat you doesn't determine your behaviour. It is your glory to overlook a offence when facing a situation that you are unavoidable with people gossiping or offensing you.
Taking the high road transform people and enlighten people. It's about bringing the best self in others. It's different from just middle road as it just depends on how people treat us and what we do is just response back.
